Language
Spanish is the official language though English is understood and/or spoken by most people employed in the tourism industry. Concierges will often speak other languages, such as French, Italian, and German.
Currency
Acapulco uses Mexican Pesos. Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks and hotels; however hotels usually have unfavorable rates. ATM’s are readily available and major credit cards are widely accepted.

Acapulco is easy to get to as there are many nonstop flights from several US cities. Once you arrive in Acapulco make sure to arrange transportation with a legitimate airport-hotel transportation service. Most fares cost approximately $20-$25 per person each way. Taxis are also good way of getting around (just look for the blue and white Volkswagen Bugs) but make sure you agree on the price before getting in the taxi. Make sure that you have exact change or ask the driver if he/she can make change for you.
Safety
Acapulco is a fairly safe city, however when you travel there are a few general rules to follow.
- Keep an eye on your luggage at all times.
- Tour scams are common. Watch out for people in bright blue or peach shirts offering you tours, etc. especially around Plaza Bahia. If you would like to arrange a tour ask one of our expert travel agents or speak with the concierge at your hotel.
- Police are there to help. If possible, go to the new federal police in brown/black/grey uniforms instead of the city police that wear blue.
Water Do not drink the water! Most hotels do have purified water, however to be on the safe site bottled water is recommended. If there is ever a problem hotels have doctors on call 24 hours a day.
