Los Cabos

Entry Requirements
All travelers to Mexico must present proof of citizenship (valid passport or original birth certificate and photo ID). In addition, visitors must also carry a Mexican Tourist Permit which is issued free of charge on arrival or may be provided in advance by airlines or travel agents. You must give this document to Immigration officials upon departure. Children under 18 traveling alone do need notarized consent from the parent(s).

Language
Spanish is the official language though English is understood and/or spoken widely in the Baja Peninsula.

Currency
Los Cabos uses Mexican Pesos. US dollars can be exchanged at exchange kiosks, banks and hotels though hotels usually have unfavorable rates. ATM’s are readily available and major credit cards are widely accepted. Traveler’s checks are also readily negotiable in banks and hotels.

Airlines
American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Alaska Airlines, America West, Mexicana, Aeromexico, Aerocalifornia, and Delta Airlines all offer regular scheduled service to the Peninsula.

With more than 150 flights landing at the San Jose del Cabo airport every week the area is easy to get to. Most East Coast travelers will have to connect their flight to Los Cabos in Atlanta, Dallas or Houston. The most direct flights originate in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver. The flight its only 2 ½ hours from Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas and Mexico City.

Getting around Los Cabos
There are countless car rental agencies to pick from once you arrive in Los Cabos if you want to do your own exploring. Taxis are also abundant in the Tourist Corridor (the 18 miles stretch between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas).

Safety
Los Cabos is generally a safe area due to the high amount of tourists. However, no matter where you are traveling make sure to be safe and take precautions to avoid problems. Never leave your valuables exposed and make sure to always walk with someone else at night. The area is laidback and enjoyable and everyone wants to keep it that way.

Water
The water supply for all of Los cabos is piped from aquifers in the Sierra de La Laguna range and is generally very pure. All of the major hotels and restaurants will use purified water and bottled water is widely available. Many people drink from the tap but it is not recommended as the piping system can contribute to contamination and cause stomach distress.
